Training

generations

The 6th generation of breakdancers,
already trained within the company.

Passing on knowledge and training the next generation of hip-hop dancers is at the heart of the company’s mission.
The experience gained over the years has turned the company’s members into true educators, sought after both their expertise and technical skills.
Since its inception, the company has been training and mentoring young dancers, guiding them through the demanding practice of breakdance, their transition to the professional stage and their aspirations in choreographic creation.
Twenty-five years after the creation of Pockemon Crew, the 6th generation of dancers is emerging from within the collective and now joins our performances.

With over 30 years of experience and practice, Riyad Fghani, artistic director and choreographer of Pockemon Crew, has developed a deep understanding of hip-hop dance – its history, culture, influences, and evolution.

Through his career as a dancer and choreographer, as well as his life experiences, Riyad regularly shares his expertise in battles and breaking, his work as a choreographer and artistic director, and his insights
into the hip-hop scene through roundtables, conferences, documentaries, interviews, and reports.

Mentoring

The afterlife of dancers and the choreographers of tomorrow

Transmission within the company goes beyond dance practice. The body is rigorously tested throughout the life of a hip-hop dancer. Career transitions often occur earlier than in other professions due to the exhaustion of their primary instrument: the body.

For several years, Riyad has been supporting the company’s dancers in their professional transition – life after active dance – when their desire to continue evolving in the field remains. The company increasingly supports artists in exploring choreography and artistic creation, nurturing a true mentorship between Riyad and the next generation of choreographers. In this way, they can benefit from the company as a creative tool: its studios, the experience and guidance of its production and administrative teams, its visibility, professional network, and, of course, its financial resources. Plays such as Là bas chez-vous (Moncef Zebiri, 2010), Empreinte (Rachid Hamchaoui, 2019), and Nineteen (Kevin Berriche, 2021) were created by emerging dancers from the Crew, reflecting the artistic vitality of the company’s members. Riyad also supported Alvaro Dule, dancer with the Lyon Opera Ballet, in creating his first piece, Millésime (2019), before continuing their collaboration with Contrappunto (2022). This dynamic continues today, with new projects currently in development.
