« Barely enough time to catch your breath as you watch this quintet of young performers, whose bodies may differ in appearance but interact with equal measures of grace and passion. »  – Tribune de Lyon

The story begins on the Peristyle of Lyon’s Opera House, where Pockemon Crew used to dance. A unique collaboration was then formed with the Ballet, resulting in their first joint creation: Millésime.

Building on this enduring relationship, Riyad Fghani, artistic director of Pockemon Crew, and Alvaro Dule, then a dancer with the Lyon Opera Ballet, sought to push even further the hybridization between (a priori) distant choreographic languages – that of hip-hop dance and ballet. Not to compare or superimpose them, but to interplay their limits, to explore how they feed and enrich each other, i.e the principle of counterpoint (contrappunto in Italian).

Drawing on a recomposition of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites, Riyad and Alvaro created their own choreographic language — a shared space for dialogue, composition, and improvisation.
Thus was born Contrappunto, a quintet celebrating this complicity, this choreographic friendship that carries them further along their artistic journey.
