The story begins on the steps of the Lyon Opera House, where Pockemon Crew used to dance. A unique collaboration was then formed with the Ballet, resulting in their first joint creation: Millésime.
Building on this ongoing relationship, Riyad Fghani, artistic director of Pockemon Crew, and Alvaro Dule, then a dancer with the Lyon Opera Ballet, wanted to take the hybridization of seemingly disparate choreographic languages—the spontaneity of hip-hop dance and the academic forms of ballet—even further. Not to compare or superimpose them, but to test their limits, exploring how they feed off and enrich each other: this is the principle of counterpoint (contrappunto in Italian).
Drawing on a recomposition of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites, Riyad and Alvaro invent their own choreographic language, a space for sharing, dialogue, composition, and improvisation.
The result is CONTRAPPUNTO, a quintet that magnifies this complicity, this choreographic friendship that takes them further in their artistic creation.
